Also, the state is well below the national average for violent crimes at 3.34 per 1,000 residents. The national average is 4.7 per 1,000 residents. This means that 1 in every 299 Indiana citizens could become the victim of a violent crime. The state also corresponds closely to the national average for property crimes, at 35.65 per 1,000 residents. The national average is 34.3 per 1,000 residents. Overall, with these statistical figures, it appears that the state is a fairly safe place to reside.
